Rotting fascia boards roof.
If the fascia board is rotting try to break off as much of the rotting wood as possible before sawing through the boards.
Your fascia boards are the long boards the run just under the roof.
If fascia boards appear to be rotting away or they become detached they should be replaced.
The roof boards under worn shingles might well have rotted too.
These parts are labeled on the opening photo.
It may also be because the roof is old or because it has been damaged.
Make sure there s a rafter at the end of your fascia board so you have a place to fasten it.
Repeat this process for each section of the roof where the eaves are beginning to show signs of deterioration.
1 check to see if fascias are rotted.
Pull down to remove the old soffit.
Remove the rotted section of fascia.
Poorly designed architectural design or damaged or misplaced shingles can allow water to flow against walls and run down causing damage.
Pry the narrow shingle mold from the fascia using a flat bar.
Be careful not to damage any nearby roof shingles or flashing.
It is also hard at work supporting your gutters and everything that they contain.
Believe it or not this is probably a good thing because rotten fascia is almost always caused by a leak in the roof above the rotten boards that you can see.
Change a rotten or damaged fascia board.
This is the time to replace them as well.
2 check for damaged boards behind the metal trim.
It was very easy.
3 replace rotted fascias preferably with azek board or other pvc trim boards.
If it comes off without splitting reuse it later.
Position the replacement boards over the rafter and secure them using galvanized nails or 2 5 inches 6 4 cm wood screws.
The roofing above the drip edge needs to be removed first.
You can install a new fascia board in a couple of hours with the right tools to d.
The fascia is attached to the end of the roof and supports the lower edge of the bottom row of roof tiles.
Whether you will install gutters by yourself or hire a pro here is what needs to be done.
In this example a roof leak around a plumbing vent allowed water to run down onto the soffit boards causing them to warp and rot along with the fascia board.
This section of the roof trim may require periodic repair or replacement.
Your gutters sit right next to them.
4 saw through any nails going into your roof with a blade meant for metal cutting.
